Nestled in the scenic Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, the TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course is one of the most iconic golf courses in the world. Designed by the legendary architect Pete Dye in 1980, this 18-hole, par-72 course is the permanent home of THE PLAYERS Championship, often referred to as golf’s “fifth major.”
As we all know from The PLAYERS Championship, the stadium course has narrow fairways, extensive sand traps and water hazards on many of the holes that can cause trouble for even the most seasoned professionals who have played in tournaments here for years.
The Island Green (Hole 17): One of the most famous holes in golf, the par-3 17th is known for its small island green. The distance to the hole is just 137 yards, so it should be a relatively easy straight forward hole, but the water surrounding the green as well as unpredictable wind conditions make it a nerve-wracking experience for any golfer.
The Gauntlet (Holes 16-18): The finishing stretch, known as “The Gauntlet,” includes the challenging par-5 16th, the iconic 17th, and the daunting par-4 18th with its water-lined left side. This trio of holes has provided countless dramatic moments, often determining the winner of THE PLAYERS Championship.
TPC Sawgrass is a public course, so anyone can play where THE PLAYERS Championship is held, but greens fees cost anywhere between $450 to $900 per person.
