1. Variety of golfing landscapes and courses
Arizona is one of a few states with different geographical biomes that make for an incredible variety of golf experiences. In Phoenix, you’ll have a lot of choices to play in some of the highest-rated golf courses in the country. If you’re lucky enough to come in the beginning of February, you can experience one of the most popular PGA golf tournaments of the season, the WM Phoenix Open. The event takes place at TPC Scottsdale’s stadium course, which is a public course you can play at – obviously not during the tournament though.
2. Breathtaking change of scenery in northern Arizona
If you’re looking for a unique backdrop and cooler weather, escape the desert by making the short trip from Phoenix to Sedona and Flagstaff. Sedona’s courses, including the Sedona Golf Resort, feature views of the red rock vistas the famous town has to offer while you play a round. Sedona is just a two hour drive from Phoenix, so you can easily stay in Phoenix, golf at a few courses, and make the short drive up to Sedona and back with plenty of time to spare.
3. Year-Round golfing and ideal weather
Even though during the summer, it gets hot especially in Phoenix, morning round and twilight golfing are enjoyable and cost effective options. Tempe (located in Phoenix) introduced a renovated par 3 golf course under the lights called Grass Clippings Rolling Hills where you can book tee times well into the night until 1am on the weekends.
The best time to come out and golf during the day is from November through the middle of May where the temperature consistently stays under 80 degrees with many comfortable 70 degree days, making for an enjoyable day of golf.
4. Amenities and more off the course
Arizona is known for more than just its golf scene. After a day on the course, enjoy a spa session at one of many luxury resorts, feast on some of the top rated Mexican food, or go skiing or snowboarding (during the winter and if you’re not too tired after golfing, but you’ll probably be tired).
Tucson is best known for its Mexican food that has been featured on TV shows and other food media websites gaining worldwide attention. Phoenix has an abundance of activities throughout the valley with year-round sporting events, shopping and more. or get away from the big city and head up to Prescott or Flagstaff and enjoy the small-town atmosphere (as said above, there are still golf courses there).
